The Sudler Silver Scroll
The Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble is proud to be a holder of The Sudler Silver Scroll, North America’s most prestigious award for Community Concert Bands.
The Sudler Silver Scroll identifies, recognizes and honors those community bands that have demonstrated particularly high standards of excellence in concert activities over a period of several years, and which have played a significant and leading role in the cultural and musical environment in their respective communities.
Sudler Silver Scroll Nominations
Nominations can be received from any source and at any time. The nominations must be sent to the Chairman of the Sudler Silver Scroll Committee. An Official Application will be forwarded to the director of the band nominated and the chairman will bring the completed applications to the annual meeting of the selection committee which takes place in December at the Mid-West International Band Clinic in Chicago. Deadline for entry: November 1st.
The Selection Committee is composed of successful community band directors who have experienced a number of successful years as band conductors. The committee will review the nominee’s programs and other supporting material and the final decision will be made by majority vote of the committee members present.

Tempe Wind ensemble plays for the love of it

The Tempe Symphonic Wind Ensemble in its 17th season of enriching the community with free music performmces. The 46-member volunteer ensemble meets weekly to practice under the direction of founder and conductor Michael "Doc " Willson.
When I started the group, I just gathered a handful of professional players that I knew and grew from there Willson said.
The ensemble has become so widely respected among professional wind instrument players that there is a lengthy waiting list to join.

An evening of stirring, patriotic music to honor our service men and women on Veteran’s Day. Selections will include well known marches, fanfares and other audience favorites.

The Delight of Dancing

TSWE will perform outstanding works based on dance music; including Maclom Arnold’s “Four Scottish Dances”, “Incantation and Dance by John Barnes Chance, and “Terpsichore” by Bob Margolis.

Second Annual High School Band festival

Beginning at 6:30 pm
TSWE will host four outstanding high school bands in an evening of superb music. Over 200 of Arizona’s most outstanding high school musicians will perform on stage.
April 4
The European Connection
7:30 pm — Monday, April 4, 2011
Outstanding wind band works by European composers will be performed. The music of Holst, Saint-Saens, Britten, and Kalinnikov will be featured.
